Cluj-Napoca railway station is the main rail hub of Transylvania and the gateway to Romania's second largest city and principal university centre, situated in the heart of the Carpathian basin. The station handles intercity services to Bucharest as well as regional trains connecting Cluj with Oradea, Brașov, and the broader Transylvanian network. Its convenient location near the city centre and the ongoing development of the surrounding Gara CFR area make it an important part of northwestern Romania's transport infrastructure.

The station is located about 1.5 km north of the main Unirii Square and the city centre. Trams and buses serve the station regularly, or the walk to the centre takes about 20 minutes through Strada Horea and the Someș riverbank.
CFR Călători operates intercity services from Cluj-Napoca to Bucharest in approximately eight to nine hours, with faster Regio Calator services also available. International connections run to Budapest via the border at Episcopia Bihor.
A left-luggage facility is available at the station during staffed hours. The station building underwent renovation and has basic passenger facilities including a café and ticket windows.
Trains from Cluj-Napoca reach Budapest Keleti in approximately five to six hours, crossing the border at Episcopia Bihor and Püspökladány. Several services operate daily and can be booked on the CFR or MAV ticketing websites.
Cluj-Napoca is the cultural capital of Transylvania, with a vibrant university scene, the National Museum of Transylvanian History, and the gothic St Michael's Church all reachable from the centre. The station is also the gateway for day trips to Salina Turda and the surrounding countryside.
