Gdańsk Główny is the main railway station of Poland's Baltic port city, a handsome neo-Gothic red-brick structure built by the Prussian state railways in 1900 that reflects the city's centuries-long German Hanseatic heritage. It serves as the hub for intercity trains to Warsaw and Kraków as well as the SKM Tricity suburban network connecting Gdańsk, Gdynia, and Sopot along the Baltic coast. The station's proximity to the historic Old Town and the famous Solidarity shipyards makes it the primary arrival point for visitors to one of Poland's most historically significant cities.

The station is located at the western edge of Gdańsk's historic main town, a ten-minute walk through the Golden Gate to Długi Targ (Long Market). Trams and buses also depart from the station area for the broader metropolitan region.

PKP Intercity runs express services from Gdańsk to Warsaw in under three hours, and to Kraków, Katowice, and Wrocław. Regional SKM trains cover the Tri-City (Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot) agglomeration every few minutes.

A left-luggage office and self-service lockers are available at Gdańsk Główny station. The service is open during normal station hours and is conveniently located inside the main building.

The SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska) commuter rail runs frequently between Gdańsk Główny, Sopot, and Gdynia Główna throughout the day and evening. The journey to Sopot takes about 15 minutes and to Gdynia about 25 minutes.

The Royal Road, the historic Old Town, the Neptune Fountain, and the Museum of the Second World War are all within walking distance of the station. The amber jewellery market along Mariacka Street is also a short stroll from the main entrance.
