Overview
Formed in 1987 in the breakup of Japan's former state railway, JR Central is one of the country's national railway companies. It runs high-speed, intercity, and regional services and is best known for operating the busiest of Japan's Shinkansen lines, with trains reaching 285 km/h. Its high-speed corridor links the largest metropolitan regions and carries some of the heaviest passenger volumes of any rail line in the world.
