About Dublin Connolly

Dublin Connolly is the principal mainline terminus on Dublin's north side, named after the labour leader and 1916 Rising signatory James Connolly, and the main departure point for intercity services to Belfast, Sligo, and Wexford. It is the northern anchor of the DART suburban rail network along Dublin Bay and is served by the cross-city Luas Red Line tram, making it a key interchange in the capital's public transport grid. Opened in 1844 as Amiens Street Station, the building retains its distinctive Italianate tower as a recognisable Dublin landmark.

Dublin Connolly is a ten-minute walk from O'Connell Street across the Samuel Beckett or Sean O'Casey bridges. The Luas Red Line tram stop at Connolly connects to the city centre at Jervis and Abbey Street in just a few minutes.

Irish Rail (Iarnród Éireann) operates intercity services from Connolly to Belfast on the Enterprise service, as well as routes to Sligo, Wexford, and Rosslare Europort. DART coastal electric rail also uses Connolly, connecting Malahide and Drogheda with Bray and Greystones.

Dublin Connolly has a left-luggage facility operated by Irish Rail, open during normal station hours. It is located inside the main concourse and charges a flat fee per item per day.

The Enterprise cross-border service departs Connolly multiple times daily and reaches Belfast Grand Central in approximately two hours. It is operated jointly by Irish Rail and Translink NI and crosses the border without passport checks for most travellers.

Opened in 1844 as Amiens Street station, the terminus was renamed in 1966 after James Connolly, one of the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising, whose headquarters at the General Post Office stands nearby. The station played a prominent role during the Rising itself.
