Skopje railway station serves the capital of North Macedonia and is a haunting symbol of the catastrophic 1963 earthquake that largely destroyed the city — the station clock was stopped at 5:17 AM, the exact moment of the quake, and the ruined old station building was preserved as a memorial and now houses the City Museum. A functional new station was built nearby to continue serving intercity routes to Belgrade, Thessaloniki, and Sofia.
