Genova Piazza Principe is within walking distance of the historic centre. The Via Balbi leads directly from the station towards Via Garibaldi and its UNESCO-listed palazzi. The old port (Porto Antico) with the famous Aquarium is about a 15-minute walk downhill.

Trenitalia Frecce high-speed trains connect Genova to Milan in about 90 minutes and to Rome. InterCity services run along the Ligurian coast to Cinque Terre, La Spezia, and Ventimiglia. Thello cross-border trains previously served Nice and Marseille, now replaced by Trenitalia services to France.
