🇫🇷 Lunéville

Luneville station is about a 10-minute walk from the Chateau de Luneville. Walk south along Rue Carnot towards the town centre and the chateau gardens. The town is compact and easily navigable on foot.

TER Grand Est trains connect Luneville to Nancy in about 20 minutes and to Strasbourg in about 75 minutes. The station is on the main Paris-Strasbourg conventional line, though TGV services use the LGV Est.

Luggage storage at Luneville is limited. The station has a ticket office and basic facilities. The main attractions can be visited in a few hours, making it a practical day trip from Nancy.

The Chateau de Luneville, known as the 'Versailles of Lorraine,' was the 18th-century residence of the Dukes of Lorraine. Despite a devastating fire in 2003, restoration continues. The chateau's French formal gardens and the town's faience pottery tradition are also notable.

The Chateau de Luneville was built for Duke Leopold of Lorraine in the early 18th century, modelled on Versailles. Stanislaus Leszczynski, the exiled King of Poland and father-in-law of Louis XV, held his court here. A major fire in 2003 destroyed much of the interior, and restoration is ongoing.
