🇫🇷 Pau

Pau station is located south of the city centre, about a 10-minute walk uphill to the Boulevard des Pyrenees. Local buses connect the station to the centre, or you can take the funicular railway that climbs from the lower town near the station to the upper town.

TGV services connect Pau to Paris Montparnasse in about five hours. TER Nouvelle-Aquitaine regional trains run to Bayonne, Lourdes, Tarbes, and Bordeaux. Pau is also on the route towards the Spanish border via Oloron-Sainte-Marie and the Canfranc line.

Luggage storage options at Pau station are limited. The station has a ticket office, a waiting room, and basic amenities. For longer-term storage, some hotels and private services in the city centre may accommodate luggage.

The Chateau de Pau, birthplace of King Henri IV, overlooks the Gave de Pau river and is a short walk from the station. The Boulevard des Pyrenees offers a spectacular panoramic view of the Pyrenees mountain chain. Pau is a traditional base for excursions to Lourdes and Pyrenees hiking.

Pau was a fashionable wintering destination for British and American visitors in the 19th century, and the railway connection helped establish its reputation as a resort town. The station's location below the dramatic cliff-top Boulevard des Pyrenees makes arriving by train a particularly scenic experience.
