Saint-Louis station is on the French side of the Basel tri-national border area. Basel SBB station is about 5 kilometres north, reachable by bus or the Basel tram line 11 that crosses the border. EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse is about 6 kilometres south.

TER Grand Est trains connect Saint-Louis to Mulhouse in about 15 minutes and to Strasbourg in about 90 minutes. Some cross-border services connect to Basel SBB. The station is at the Franco-Swiss border.

Luggage storage at Saint-Louis is limited. The station has a ticket office and basic facilities. For more extensive services, Basel SBB is nearby.

Saint-Louis is primarily a border town, useful as a gateway to Basel. The Petite Camargue Alsacienne nature reserve is an unexpected wetland area nearby. The town's cross-border character means French prices with Swiss cultural access.

Saint-Louis offers significantly cheaper accommodation than Basel while providing easy tram access to the Swiss city. The border crossing is seamless with Basel tram line 11 running directly from Saint-Louis to Basel's museums and old town. EuroAirport is also close.
