Un ancho de vía de 1.435 mm (4 pies 8,5 pulgadas) utilizado por aproximadamente el 55% de las vías ferroviarias del mundo. Adoptado como estándar internacional en 1937, tiene su origen en los primitivos ferrocarriles mineros británicos y es el ancho dominante en Europa, América del Norte, China y la mayoría de las redes de alta velocidad.
