La gare de Baden est l'un des principaux nœuds ferroviaires de banlieue du canton d'Argovie, située à l'endroit où la rivière Limmat quitte les collines du Jura pour s'ouvrir sur le Plateau suisse, à seulement 25 kilomètres au nord-ouest de Zürich. La ville de Baden a une longue histoire en tant que ville thermale — son nom dérive des sources chaudes sulfureuses qui attirent les visiteurs depuis l'époque romaine — et en tant que centre industriel qui a accueilli pendant plus d'un siècle le groupe d'ingénierie ABB et ses prédécesseurs. Des services S-Bahn fréquents sur les lignes S6 et S12 relient Baden à Zürich Hauptbahnhof en environ 20 minutes, et des trains intercity y font également halte, ce qui en fait l'une des petites villes les mieux desservies de la région métropolitaine de Zürich.

Baden station is centrally located, about a 5-minute walk from the old town and the Limmat river. The historic spa quarter and the wooden covered bridge are within easy walking distance. Baden is just 20 minutes from Zurich by frequent S-Bahn services.

SBB InterRegio and S-Bahn trains connect Baden to Zurich in about 15 to 20 minutes. InterRegio services also run to Bern and Basel. Baden is one of the busiest commuter stations in the Zurich metropolitan area, with very frequent departures.

Baden station has a ticket office, SBB Travel Centre, luggage lockers, shops, and a cafe. The station was modernised and expanded in recent years to handle its heavy commuter traffic.

Baden has been a spa town since Roman times, with thermal baths still in operation. The Langmatt Museum in a Jugendstil villa houses an impressive Impressionist art collection. The medieval old town with its covered bridge over the Limmat and the hilltop castle ruins are charming to explore.

Baden's thermal springs have been used since Roman times, when the settlement was known as Aquae Helveticae. The town hosted the Swiss Diet (federal parliament) for centuries before Bern became the capital. The famous Baden Treaty of 1714 ended the War of the Spanish Succession.
