Bolzano station is centrally located, just a five-minute walk from the main shopping street Via dei Portici and Piazza Walther. The compact old town is entirely walkable from the station. Local buses also connect to surrounding valleys and cable car stations.

Bolzano sits on the Brenner Pass line connecting Italy to Austria. Trenitalia regional trains run south to Verona and Trento, and north to the Brenner border. OBB EuroCity trains connect directly to Innsbruck and Munich, making it a key international rail junction.

The station has a ticket office, automated machines, a waiting room, and several shops and cafes. Luggage lockers are available. The station provides bilingual signage in Italian and German, reflecting the region's dual-language character.

The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, home to Otzi the Iceman, is a short walk from the station. The colourful Via dei Portici, the Gothic cathedral, and the Runkelstein Castle are all easily accessible. Cable cars from the city reach alpine meadows and hiking trails above.

Bolzano is an excellent rail gateway to the Dolomites. Regional trains and connecting buses reach the Val Gardena, Alpe di Siusi, and Val Pusteria. The Renon cable car departs directly from near the station, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountain landscape.
