Ziegelbrücke is an important junction station where the lines to Glarus and Chur diverge. Direct trains connect to Zürich, Chur, and Linthal, making it a key interchange for eastern Switzerland.

SBB operates InterRegio and regional services through Ziegelbrücke. The station serves as a junction between the Zürich–Chur main line and the branch line into the Glarus valley.

Ziegelbrücke station has multiple platforms, a staffed ticket office, waiting rooms, and Park+Ride facilities. As a junction station, it offers good interchange facilities between connecting services.

The station sits at the western end of the Walensee lake, one of Switzerland's deepest and most scenic lakes. The Linth canal, a major 18th-century engineering project, runs nearby.

Ziegelbrücke became a railway junction in 1859 when the line to Glarus branched off from the main Zürich–Chur route. The name refers to an old brick bridge over the Linth river, and the station's junction role has been vital for connecting the Glarus valley to the Swiss rail network.
