Imperia station (Imperia Porto Maurizio or Imperia Oneglia, depending on which part of town you need) is within walking distance of the respective town centres. Porto Maurizio has the medieval hilltop old town, while Oneglia is the commercial and port area.

Trenitalia regional trains on the Genova-Ventimiglia Ligurian coast line serve Imperia. Connections to Nice and Monaco are available via Ventimiglia. The scenic coastal line passes through numerous tunnels and offers sea views.

Luggage storage at Imperia is limited. The stations have ticket offices and basic facilities. The town is the capital of the Imperia province on the Ligurian Riviera di Ponente.

Porto Maurizio has a dramatic hilltop medieval quarter called the Parasio, with narrow lanes and sea views. Oneglia is the birthplace of the olive oil industry, home to the Museo dell'Olivo. The entire Riviera di Ponente coast offers beaches and the famous Via Aurelia.

Imperia, specifically the Oneglia district, is the historic centre of Italian olive oil production and trade. The Fratelli Carli olive oil company has operated here since 1911, and their Museo dell'Olivo traces 6,000 years of olive oil history. The Ligurian hills produce some of Italy's finest oils.
