🇮🇹 Trieste Centrale
MajorItaly
Trieste Centrale is the principal station of the historic port city of Trieste in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, a city whose position on the Adriatic at the edge of the Karst plateau has long made it a crossroads between Italy, Central Europe, and the Balkans. Trenitalia InterCity and regional services connect Trieste with Venice in around two hours, while cross-border services run into Slovenia; the station also serves as the departure point for Slovenian Railways trains to Ljubljana. The station building itself, a grand early 20th-century structure, is a short walk from the seafront Piazza Unità d'Italia.

Frequently Asked Questions
Trieste Centrale is positioned at the southern end of the Riva waterfront promenade, placing the seafront and Piazza Unità d'Italia within a five-minute walk. City buses also depart from the station to the hilltop Castle of San Giusto and the Opicina tramway terminus.
Trenitalia Regionale trains link Trieste to Venice in around two hours and to Udine in about an hour. International connections to Ljubljana and Zagreb are available via a change at Villa Opicina or through cross-border regional services.
The Eclectic-style station building houses a staffed ticket office, self-service machines, a café, and a newsagent. Luggage lockers are available near the main entrance hall, and the station is fully accessible with lifts between levels.
Self-service coin-operated lockers are located inside the station concourse and are suitable for day trips to the Miramare Castle or the Karst plateau. For longer storage, a staffed deposito bagagli window operates during daytime hours.
Trieste's café culture is distinctive — locals order a 'capo in b' (espresso with a dash of milk in a glass) rather than a standard cappuccino. The historic Caffè San Marco, just a short walk from the station, is one of the grandest examples of a central European literary café still in operation.
