🇫🇷 Riom – Châtel-Guyon

Riom-Chatel-Guyon station serves both Riom and the spa town of Chatel-Guyon. Riom's old town is about a 10-minute walk east, while Chatel-Guyon is about 5 kilometres west, accessible by bus.

TER Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes trains connect the station to Clermont-Ferrand in about 15 minutes. Regional services also run north to Vichy and Moulins. The frequent Clermont connection makes it easy to visit as a day trip.

Luggage storage at the station is limited. The station has a ticket office and basic amenities. Riom's old town is walkable from the station, while Chatel-Guyon requires bus or taxi.

Riom has one of Auvergne's finest old towns, with Renaissance mansions built from local Volvic lava stone. The Sainte-Chapelle here has beautiful stained glass. Chatel-Guyon is a Belle Epoque spa town with thermal baths. The volcanic Chaine des Puys UNESCO site is visible to the west.

The Chaine des Puys, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a chain of 80 dormant volcanoes visible from Riom. The Puy de Dome, the highest at 1,465 metres, is accessible by a rack railway from the base. The volcanic landscape is geologically unique in mainland France.
