Frankfurt (Main) Süd is a busy suburban and regional station in the southern part of Frankfurt, sitting at the junction of several S-Bahn lines that radiate across the Rhine-Main metropolitan area. It handles a high volume of commuter traffic for the Sachsenhausen and Niederrad districts and serves as a stopping point for some long-distance regional express trains on routes bypassing Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. S-Bahn line S3, S4, or S5 runs from Frankfurt Main Süd to Frankfurt Hbf in about five minutes, and to the Hauptwache in the city centre in around ten minutes. Trams and buses also serve the surrounding Sachsenhausen neighbourhood.
S-Bahn lines and some regional express (RE) trains on the south Frankfurt corridor stop here. Long-distance ICE trains use Frankfurt Hbf rather than Süd, so check your itinerary to confirm where your service departs.
The station is in the Sachsenhausen district, known for its apple-wine taverns, the Museumsufer (museum embankment), and proximity to the old Sachsenhausen village. It is a pleasant and quieter entry point to Frankfurt compared to the busy main station.
