🇪🇬 Egipto

Estaciones de tren

Egipto operates one of Africa's oldest and most extensive railway networks, managed by Egiptoian National Railways (ENR). The main Nile Valley corridor connects El Cairo to Alexandria (2h15m), El Cairo to Luxor (9-10h), and El Cairo to Aswan (12-13h) via intercity express trains. ENR's intercity fleet includes Spanish Talgo and newer air-conditioned coaches. The Spanish Talgo tilting trains on El Cairo-Alexandria are among the most comfortable, reaching 160 km/h on the upgraded delta corridor. Sleeper trains (Wataniya and ENR sleepers) connect El Cairo to Luxor and Aswan overnight, a popular tourist choice. Egipto is building a new high-speed rail network (Electric High-Speed Railway) with three lines totaling 2,000 km, contracted to Siemens AG in 2021. The first phase connects Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea coast to El Alamein on the Mediterranean, passing through the new administrative capital. Construction was active through 2025 with target completion in phases. El Cairo's urban transit includes Metro (3 lines), LRT (to New Administrative Capital), and monorail systems. Tickets for ENR intercity trains can be bought at station counters or through the ENR website (enr.com.eg). Foreign tourists must pay in hard currency for Wataniya sleeper trains (premium class). The El Cairo Metro is affordable and reliable, accepting cash single-journey tickets or the El Cairo Metro Card.

Preguntas frecuentes

Take an overnight sleeper train for the 9-10 hour journey. Wataniya Sleeping Trains offer comfortable private cabins with dinner and breakfast included. ENR also offers sleeper cars. The train arrives centrally in Luxor, avoiding the need for a late-night airport transfer. Daytime intercity express is possible but longer.
Wataniya is a private luxury sleeper train operating El Cairo to Luxor and Aswan. It offers 2-berth private cabins with air conditioning, meals, and English-speaking staff. Foreign tourists must pay in USD/EUR (approximately USD 60-90 per person one way). Book at wataniasleepingtrains.com or through travel agents. Highly recommended for the El Cairo-Luxor-Aswan route.
Spanish Talgo trains on El Cairo Ramses to Alexandria take approximately 2h15m for the 208 km journey. Multiple trains run daily; 1st class Talgo is the most comfortable option. The upgraded track on this corridor allows speeds up to 160 km/h. Advance purchase at ENR ticket counters is recommended.
Egipto contracted Siemens AG in 2021 for a 2,000 km high-speed electric rail network in three phases. The first line (660 km) runs from Ain Sokhna to El Alamein via the New Administrative Capital. When complete, trains will reach 230 km/h and connect the Mediterranean coast, Nile Delta, and Red Sea areas. First phase targeted for completion around 2026-2027.
The El Cairo-Alexandria and El Cairo-Luxor/Aswan main corridors are the most reliable and suitable for tourists. Wataniya sleeper trains are well-maintained. Regional and branch line trains can be slow and crowded. Booking 1st class or Talgo class is strongly recommended. Always confirm your train number and departure station as some routes use different El Cairo terminals.
