Estaciones de tren

Taiwán has an excellent rail network combining the high-speed Taiwán High Speed Rail (THSR) and the conventional Taiwán Railways (TRA). The THSR connects Taipéi to Kaohsiung (345 km) in just 1h35m at speeds up to 300 km/h using Japónese Shinkansen 700T technology, with intermediate stops including Taichung (50 min from Taipéi) and Tainan (1h22m from Taipéi). The THSR opened in 2007 and transformed travel on Taiwán's west coast, effectively making the entire western corridor a single metropolitan area for commuting purposes. Taiwán Railways (TRA, soon rebranded as the Taiwán Railways Corporation) operates the full island circuit, including the scenic east coast route through the Taroko Gorge and Hualien-Taitung corridor. The Tze-Chiang express (Taroko and Puyuma trains) serves this east coast route, reaching 130-150 km/h. The TRA circle line around the island (about 900 km) takes around 16 hours and passes through mountains and dramatic Pacific coastline. Taipéi's MRT (Metro) is one of Asia's most modern and reliable, with 6 lines and extensions ongoing. THSR tickets are sold at thsrc.com.tw and at station kiosks; early discount tickets (20-35% off) are available online. TRA tickets are sold at railway.gov.tw. The Taiwán Rail Pass covers unlimited THSR and TRA travel for 3-10 days and is available to foreign tourists. The EasyCard IC card works on Taipéi MRT, buses, and some TRA regional services.
