Brienz is on the Zentralbahn line between Interlaken Ost and Meiringen, about 20 minutes from Interlaken. The train runs along the northern shore of Lake Brienz, offering stunning turquoise lake views. A paddle steamer also connects Brienz to Interlaken in summer.
The Brienz Rothorn Bahn, a historic steam-powered cog railway, departs from next to the station and climbs to 2,350 metres for panoramic views over Lake Brienz and the Bernese Alps. It is one of Switzerland's last regularly operated steam rack railways.
Luggage lockers are available at Brienz station. The station is small but serves as the departure point for the Rothorn steam railway. The lakeside setting is immediately accessible from the platform.
