Chaumont station is about a 10-minute walk from the old town on the hilltop. Walk south and uphill to reach the Place du General de Gaulle and the historic centre with its views over the Suize and Marne valleys.
TGV services connect Chaumont to Paris Est in about 2.5 hours on the Paris-Basel conventional line. TER Grand Est trains run to Troyes, Langres, and Dijon. The station sits at a junction of several regional lines.
Luggage storage at Chaumont is limited. The station has a ticket office and a waiting room. The old town is walkable but involves some uphill climbing from the station.
Chaumont is famous for its annual International Poster Festival, the oldest of its kind. The 19th-century railway viaduct spanning the valley is an impressive sight. The old town has a Romanesque-Gothic basilica and the donjon tower with panoramic views.
The Chaumont Viaduct, completed in 1857, spans the Suize valley at a height of 52 metres with 50 arches. It was one of the largest railway bridges of its era and remains a striking feature of the landscape. The viaduct carries the Paris-Basel railway line through the town.
