Renfe AVE high-speed trains connect Cuenca to Madrid in about 55 minutes and to Valencia in about one hour. The station was opened in 2010 as part of the Madrid-Levante high-speed line.
Luggage storage at the station is limited. The modern station has a ticket office, cafe, and waiting area. Shuttle buses to the city centre are coordinated with train arrivals.
Cuenca's UNESCO-listed old town features the famous Casas Colgadas (Hanging Houses) perched on cliff edges above the Huecar gorge. The Museum of Abstract Art, named after Fernando Zobel who founded it, is inside one of these houses. The walled old town and Gothic cathedral are spectacular.
The station honours Fernando Zobel de Ayala, a Filipino-Spanish artist who founded Cuenca's Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in 1966 inside the Hanging Houses. His collection, featuring works by Chillida, Tapies, and Saura, helped put Cuenca on the international art map.
