🇫🇷 Issoudun

Issoudun station is about a 5-minute walk from the town centre. Walk north to reach the main square and the White Tower (Tour Blanche). The compact town is entirely walkable.

TER Centre-Val de Loire trains connect Issoudun to Chateauroux and Bourges. Intercites services on the Paris-Limoges-Toulouse POLT line also stop here, providing a direct link to Paris Austerlitz in about 2.5 hours.

Luggage storage at Issoudun is limited. The station has a ticket office and basic facilities. The town is small enough to visit in an hour or two.

The Tour Blanche is a 12th-century donjon built by Richard the Lionheart. The Musee de l'Hospice Saint-Roch has an interesting collection including two Jesse Trees. Issoudun features prominently in Balzac's novel 'La Rabouilleuse' (The Black Sheep).

Issoudun is the setting of Honore de Balzac's 1842 novel 'La Rabouilleuse,' which vividly depicts provincial life in post-Napoleonic France. Many locations in the novel correspond to real buildings in the town. The literary connection brings visitors interested in Balzac's 'Comedie Humaine' cycle.
