Saint-Etienne Chateaucreux is the main station, located about 10 minutes' walk from the Place Jean Jaures and the city centre. The tram line T1 stops at the station, providing connections to the Cite du Design and other parts of the city.

TER Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes trains connect Saint-Etienne to Lyon Part-Dieu in about 50 minutes, with very frequent departures. TGV services run to Paris in under three hours. Regional services also reach Le Puy-en-Velay and Clermont-Ferrand.
