Tours station is centrally located, just a few minutes' walk from Place Jean Jaures and the old town along Rue Nationale. The tram line stops directly outside the station, providing connections across the city. Note that Tours also has a separate TGV station, Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, for high-speed services.
TER Centre-Val de Loire regional trains serve Tours with connections to Blois, Amboise, Chinon, and Saumur. Some Intercites services also call here. For TGV services to Paris Montparnasse, most high-speed trains stop at Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, connected to Tours centre by a short shuttle train.
Luggage storage is available at Tours station. The station has been recently renovated and offers a ticket office, shops, and cafes. The ornate 19th-century facade with its twin domes is a notable feature of the building.
Tours is the gateway to the Loire Valley chateaux. Amboise and Chenonceau are easily reached by regional train. The old town of Tours itself has a beautiful half-timbered quarter around Place Plumereau, the Cathedral of Saint-Gatien, and excellent gastronomy.
Tours is widely considered the best rail base for Loire Valley chateau visits. Amboise is just 20 minutes by train, and Blois is 40 minutes away. Several chateaux including Villandry and Azay-le-Rideau are accessible by regional trains or bus connections from the station.
