🇫🇷 Argenton-sur-Creuse

Argenton-sur-Creuse station is about a 10-minute walk from the picturesque old town along the Creuse river. Walk towards the river to see the half-timbered houses reflected in the water, a scene often called the 'Venice of Berry.'

Intercites trains on the Paris-Limoges POLT line stop at Argenton-sur-Creuse, providing direct connections to Paris Austerlitz in about 3 hours. TER Centre-Val de Loire trains run to Chateauroux and Limoges.

Luggage storage at Argenton-sur-Creuse is limited. The station has a ticket office and basic facilities. The town is small and easily explored on foot.

The old town along the Creuse river with its medieval houses and chapel is the main draw. The town is sometimes called the 'Venice of Berry' for its waterside setting. The Gargilesse-Dampierre village nearby, one of France's most beautiful villages, was a favourite of George Sand.

Argenton-sur-Creuse earned the nickname 'Venice of Berry' for its houses built on stilts over the Creuse river, with their reflections creating a picturesque scene. The old Pont Vieux offers the best viewpoint. Artists have been drawn to this scene since the 19th century.
