The first-class accommodation on Japanese railways, indicated by a green four-leaf clover symbol. Green Car seats are wider (typically 2+2 on Shinkansen, vs 3+2 in ordinary class), recline further, and offer extra legroom and amenities. A Green Car surcharge is added to the base fare. On the Tokaido Shinkansen, a further premium 'Gran Class' tier was introduced in 2011 with 2+1 seating.
