ベトナム's 鉄道ネットワーク centers on the Reunification Express (Thong Nhat) -- the north-south mainline stretching 1,726 km from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). The full journey takes 30-35 時間 on the fastest trains. Operated by ベトナム Railways (フィンランド国鉄/VNR), the line 運行 through UNESCO-listed UNESCO Phong Nha caves area, the dramatic Hai Van Pass overlooking the South 中国 Sea, the ancient imperial city of Hue, Da Nang, and Hoi An vicinity. Most travelers break the journey at Da Nang or Hue rather than doing the full length at once. ベトナム is investing in a major 高速鉄道 project: a 1,541 km dedicated HSR line from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City at 350 km/h, which would reduce the journey to 5-6 時間. The National Assembly approved the project in November 2024 with a target completion around 2035. The project is one of the largest infrastructure investments in Vietnamese history. Meanwhile, VNR has been upgrading the conventional network with new SE (Saigon Express) trainsets and improved sleeper cars. Tickets are sold at dsvn.vn, VNR station counters, and third-party platforms like Baolau and 12go.asia. Booking 1-3 weeks ahead is recommended for popular segments (Hanoi-Hue, Da Nang-Ho Chi Minh).
