津軽海峡の海底に建設された、本州と北海道を結ぶ全長53.85kmの鉄道トンネル。24年の工期を経て1988年に完成し、ゴッタルドベーストンネルが開通するまでは世界最長のトンネルだった。2016年からは北海道新幹線がトンネルの一区間を在来線貨物列車と共用し、減速して通過している。
