Cervia station is about a 15-minute walk from the beaches. Walk east towards the Adriatic coast. Milano Marittima, the more upmarket resort section, is about 2 kilometres north of the station, reachable by bus.

Trenitalia regional trains on the Ravenna-Rimini coastal line serve the station. Connections to Bologna and the wider network are made at Ravenna or Rimini. In summer, services are augmented to handle beach traffic.

Luggage storage at the station is limited. The station has basic facilities. Resort hotels usually accommodate guests with luggage storage services.

The broad sandy beaches are the main attraction. Cervia's historic salt pans have operated since Roman times and can be visited. The natural pine forests (pinete) behind the coast are protected areas. Milano Marittima is known for its nightlife and upscale beach clubs.

The Salina di Cervia is an artisanal salt works that has produced 'sweet salt' (sal dolce) since Etruscan times. The salt is hand-harvested using traditional methods. Guided tours of the salt pans include birdwatching, as flamingos and other wading birds frequent the shallow waters.
