Göschenen is a mountain สถานี at the northern entrance of the historic Gotthard Tunnel in the canton of Uri, perched at around 1,100 metres altitude at the head of the Reuss valley gorge. Before the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel in 2016, virtually all passenger and freight rail traffic crossing the Alps through Switzerland passed through Göschenen, and the old tunnel portal remains an iconic landmark of 19th-century Swiss engineering.
