Interlocking

A safety system that prevents conflicting train movements by enforcing rules between signals, turnouts, and track sections. An interlocking ensures that a signal cannot show a proceed aspect unless the route ahead is correctly set and locked. Modern interlockings are computer-based and can control entire station areas from a central location.
