Über Hamburg-Altona

Hamburg-Altona is the western Kopfbahnhof of Hamburg's intercity Schienennetz, serving the lively Altona district and acting as the starting point for numerous long-distance IC and ICE-Dienste heading to Köln, München, and along the Nordseeküste. The station is ein wichtiger Knotenpunkt on the Hamburg S-Bahn-Netz and sees heavy commuter traffic from the western suburbs of Hamburg and the benachbart state of Schleswig-Holstein. Plans for a new replacement station further inland have been under discussion for many years, reflecting the site's long-term strategic importance to Hamburg's Schienennetz.
