About Hamburg-Altona

Hamburg-Altona is the western terminus station of Hamburg's intercity rail network, serving the lively Altona district and acting as the starting point for numerous long-distance IC and ICE services heading to Cologne, Munich, and along the North Sea coast. The station is an important hub on the Hamburg S-Bahn network and sees heavy commuter traffic from the western suburbs of Hamburg and the neighbouring state of Schleswig-Holstein. Plans for a new replacement station further inland have been under discussion for many years, reflecting the site's long-term strategic importance to Hamburg's rail network.
