Venezia Mestre is the principal mainland estación serving the Venice metropolitan area, acting as a puerta de entrada for pasajeros who prefer to stay on the mainland or need to connect onward by autobús and tranvía rather than crossing the lagoon. It handles a high volume of regional and interurbano traffic, with many trenes de larga distancia terminating here rather than continuing across the causeway to Venezia Santa Lucia. The estación serves the sprawling industrial and residenteial districts of Mestre and provides good conexiones to Marco Polo aeropuerto via autobús.
