Mendrisio is a station in the Mendrisiotto district at the southern tip of Ticino, Switzerland's Italian-speaking canton, close to the border with the Italian province of Como and the Lombardy plain. The station lies on the Gotthard main line between Lugano and Chiasso, and is served by SBB RegioExpress services as well as TILO cross-border S-Bahn trains that operate jointly between Switzerland and northern Italy. Mendrisio is known for its wine production, its annual Easter torch procession, and the nearby Monte San Giorgio UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it a worthwhile stop for travellers exploring the Sottoceneri region.

Mendrisio sits just minutes from the Italian border, with Como San Giovanni reachable in around 15 minutes by regional train via Chiasso. Lake Como and Milan are both easily accessible for day trips, and cross-border SBB-Trenitalia tickets can be purchased for seamless travel.
