Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof is the main railway hub of Baden-Württemberg's state capital, serving as a major interchange for ICE high-speed services connecting Frankfurt, Munich, Zürich, and Paris with the heart of the Swabian industrial region. The current station, a notable Weimar-era structure with its distinctive tower, is at the centre of the controversial Stuttgart 21 project, which will transform it into an underground through-station and reshape rail travel across the region. The S-Bahn network radiates outward from here to Karlsruhe, Tübingen, and the Schwäbische Alb, making it the gateway to some of Germany's most picturesque countryside.

Stuttgart Hbf is a major ICE hub on the Frankfurt–Munich and Frankfurt–Zurich corridors, with frequent high-speed services to both cities. TGV trains connect Stuttgart directly to Paris in around three hours and 20 minutes via the Rhine valley route.

S-Bahn line S2 and S3 connect Stuttgart Hbf to Stuttgart Airport (Flughafen) in about 27 minutes, with trains running every 10 to 15 minutes throughout the day. The airport station is directly beneath the terminal.
