Derailer

A safety device placed on a track to intentionally derail unauthorised or runaway rolling stock at low speed before it can reach a main line or occupied track. Derailers are typically installed on sidings, yard leads, and industrial spurs as a last resort to prevent uncontrolled movements from fouling the mainline. They are removed or bypassed when legitimate movements are authorised.
