Locomotive

A powered railway vehicle used to haul unpowered coaches or wagons, without carrying passengers or freight itself. Locomotives may be electric, diesel, diesel-electric, or (historically) steam-powered. While EMUs dominate passenger services, locomotives remain essential for freight haulage, night trains, and lines without electrification.
