The world's longest and deepest railway tunnel at 57.1 km, running beneath the Swiss Alps between Erstfeld and Bodio. Opened in 2016 after 17 years of construction, it forms the centrepiece of the NRLA (Neue Eisenbahn-Alpentransversale) project, enabling flat-route transit through the Alps and shifting freight from road to rail.
