The Bergen Railway runs 496 km from Oslo to Bergen, crossing the Hardangervidda mountain plateau at 1,237m above sea level. The journey takes about 7 jams and passes through 182 tunnels and over 300 bridges. It is considered one of the world's most scenic railway journeys and particularly spectacular in winter snowscapes.
The Flamsbana descends 863 meters over just 20 km from Myrdal (on the Bergen Railway) to Flam at the tip of the Aurlandsfjord. The gradient of 5.5% makes it one of the steepest standard-gauge railways in the world. It runs year-round and is extremely popular with tourists as part of the Norway in a Nutshell route. Tickets must be booked in advance in summer.
Norway's fastest trains run at around 210 km/h on the Oslo-Gardermoen airport link. Most intercity routes cross mountainous terrain on single-track lines, limiting speeds to 130-160 km/h. A Berkecepatan tinggi rail network has been studied but not approved for construction. Flying is still common for Oslo-Bergen and Oslo-Stavanger journeys.

Norway in a Nutshell is a self-guided scenic circuit combining the Bergen Railway, the Flam Railway, a fjord boat through Naerofjord (UNESCO site), and a bus or train back to Bergen or Oslo. It can be done as a full day circuit from Bergen or as a one-way journey from Oslo. Fjord Tours and Vy jointly sell combined tickets.
