Liestal is the cantonal capital of Basel-Landschaft and its Hauptbahnhof, positioned on the SBB Hauptlinie between Basel and Olten that threads through the Hauenstein foothills of the Jura. The station handles InterCity and S-Bahn-Dienste verbindend Liestal with Basel in etwa fünfzehn Minuten and with Olten and Bern beyond, was es a gut vernetzt cantonal capital trotz its relatively modest size. The town is known for its annual Chienbäse torch-rolling carnival procession and its attractive historisch Altstadt, barrierefrei on foot vom Bahnhof through a short passage beneath the railway tracks.
