Bellinzona is the cantonal capital of Ticino and an important rail nudo ferroviario in the meridional Swiss Alps, where trenes from the Gotthard and Lötschberg–Simplon rutas converge before continuing towards Lugano, Lococheno, and the Italian border. The town's declarado Patrimonio de la UNESCO castillo medievals overlook the valle and the estación, giving Bellinzona a dramatic setting that few Swiss rail stops can match. interurbano and EuroCity trenes serving the Zürich–Milan corredor call here, and a branch línea departs for Lococheno on Lake Maggiore.
