Agrigento Centrale station is about 3 kilometres from the Valley of the Temples. Local buses run from the station area to the archaeological park. A taxi takes about 10 minutes. The station is closer to the medieval old town on the hilltop.
Trenitalia regional trains connect Agrigento to Palermo in about 2 hours, with several services daily. Trains to Catania require a change. The scenic line passes through the rugged Sicilian interior with dramatic mountain and valley views.
Luggage storage at Agrigento Centrale is limited. The station is small with a ticket office and basic waiting facilities. For visitors arriving with luggage, dropping bags at accommodation before visiting the temples is recommended.
The UNESCO-listed Valley of the Temples, one of the most outstanding examples of ancient Greek architecture outside Greece, is the main draw. The medieval old town with its Norman cathedral and narrow streets is within walking distance of the station on the hilltop.
The train from Palermo to Agrigento traverses some of Sicily's most dramatic interior landscapes, passing through mountains, deep valleys, and remote hillside towns. While the journey is slow compared to driving, the scenery makes it one of the most rewarding rail journeys in southern Italy.
