아헨 소개

Aachen Hbf is the principal station of Germany's westernmost city, located at the intersection of Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands in a region historically associated with Charlemagne and the Carolingian empire. The station sits on the high-speed Cologne–Brussels line and handles ICE services between Germany and Brussels, as well as Intercity and regional trains toward Cologne, Liège, and Maastricht, making it one of the most important cross-border stations in the Benelux-German rail corridor. Aachen's celebrated cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the burial place of Charlemagne, is less than fifteen minutes' walk from the station, and the renowned RWTH Aachen technical university generates substantial student and academic traffic year-round.

The historic city centre and Aachen Cathedral are a fifteen-minute walk from the main station exit, or a short ride on bus lines 1 and 13 which stop directly outside. The cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is visible from several points on the walk through the town.

Aachen Hbf is served by Thalys and Eurostar high-speed trains running between Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam; the station is the final German stop before crossing into Belgium. ICE services also connect Aachen to Cologne, Frankfurt, and Berlin several times daily.

Self-service luggage lockers are located on the main concourse at Aachen Hbf, accepting card and cash payments. The station also has a DB Travel Centre for ticket queries, seat reservations, and rail pass validation.

The Belgian border at Hergenrath is approximately twelve kilometres from Aachen, and the Dutch border at Vaals is around eight kilometres away, both reachable by bus from the station. This tri-border location makes Aachen an excellent base for exploring the Euregio Maas-Rhein.

Aachen Cathedral, Charlemagne's burial church and the oldest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe, is the unmissable attraction and a five-minute walk from the station. The historic thermal baths, the Carolus Thermen spa, and the city's legendary Printen gingerbread are other highlights not to be missed.
