Germany's westernmost city is served by Aachen Hauptbahnhof, UIC 8015345, close to the point where the German, Belgian, and Dutch borders meet. The station lies on the high-speed route between Cologne and Brussels and handles international services on that corridor together with regional trains towards Liège and Maastricht, making it one of the busiest crossing points on Germany's western frontier. Aachen was the seat of Charlemagne's court, and the octagonal palatine chapel at the core of its cathedral was among the first sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1978. The city's technical university draws a further substantial flow of passengers. The station stands at about 50.77 degrees north, 6.09 degrees east, on Europe/Berlin time.
