Bruges station is about a 15-minute walk south of the Markt square and the historic centre. Walk north along Zuidzandstraat to reach the main squares. Local buses also run from the station forecourt to the centre, though walking is the most pleasant option along the tree-lined streets.

NMBS/SNCB trains connect Bruges to Brussels in about one hour, with frequent IC services throughout the day. Trains also run to Ghent in 25 minutes, Knokke-Heist on the coast, and Ostend. The station is well-connected to the entire Belgian rail network.

Luggage lockers are available at Bruges station in various sizes. The station has a ticket office, shops, and cafes. This is particularly useful for day-trippers from Brussels who want to explore the medieval city unburdened.

Bruges is one of Europe's best-preserved medieval cities. The Belfry tower on the Markt, the Church of Our Lady with Michelangelo's Madonna, the Groeninge Museum, and the picturesque canals are all within walking distance. The Beguinage and Minnewater lake are actually closer to the station.

Bruges is one of Belgium's most popular day trips from Brussels, with trains running every half hour and the journey taking about 60 minutes. The compact UNESCO-listed old town is entirely walkable. Most visitors can see the key sights in a full day, though the city rewards a longer stay.
