Pontresina is a junction station on the Rhaetian Railway in the Upper Engadine, positioned where the main Albula line from Chur and St. Moritz splits off towards the celebrated Bernina line that crosses the Alps to Tirano in Italy. The village of Pontresina is a year-round Alpine resort offering skiing in winter and spectacular hiking and mountaineering in summer, with direct access to the Morteratsch glacier and the Diavolezza cable car. Rhaetian Railway panoramic Express trains on the Bernina route pass through here, offering one of the finest rail journeys in the world at altitudes exceeding 2,000 metres.

Pontresina and St Moritz are linked by frequent Rhaetian Railway (RhB) services taking around ten minutes. The two resort villages are close neighbours in the Upper Engadine, and the train is the most convenient way to move between them.

Pontresina is on the RhB Bernina line, which runs south over the Bernina Pass to Tirano in Italy — one of the world's most scenic UNESCO-listed railway journeys. The station is also on the Samedan branch, providing connections to Chur via the Albula line.

The station has automated ticket machines, a waiting room, and bicycle rental for exploring the valley. Ski and hiking equipment can be hired in the village, just a few minutes walk from the station entrance.

Pontresina station has self-service luggage lockers suitable for day storage. RhB's baggage forwarding service also allows luggage to be sent ahead to hotels or onward destinations within the network.

Pontresina is the starting point for the Bernina Express panoramic train to Tirano and Lugano, widely regarded as one of the world's most dramatic rail journeys. Reservations for the Bernina Express are strongly recommended, particularly in summer and winter high season.
