Stansstad station is at the edge of the village, near the shore of Lake Lucerne. The village centre with its historic chapel and the Stanserhorn cable car are within walking distance.

Zentralbahn trains on the Lucerne-Engelberg line stop at Stansstad. The journey to Lucerne takes about 20 minutes. Lake steamers on the Lake Lucerne service also call at the Stansstad pier.

Stansstad station has limited facilities. The station serves the village and the nearby Stanserhorn cable car. For more services, Stans or Lucerne stations are nearby.

Stansstad sits on a peninsula jutting into Lake Lucerne, with scenic views in all directions. The 13th-century Schnitzturm tower guards the old harbour. The Stanserhorn, accessible by vintage funicular and modern CabriO open-top cable car, offers panoramic Alpine views.

The CabriO is the world's first open-top double-decker cable car, ascending the Stanserhorn from Stans. Passengers can stand on the open upper deck with 360-degree views of the Alps and ten lakes. The lower section uses a restored 1893 funicular, making it a journey through cable car history.
