Glasgow Central is the busiest railway станция in Scotland and one of the major intercity hubs in the United Kingdom, serving as the terminus for Avanti West Coast services on the West Coast Main Линия to London Euston and a wide range of ScotRail and CrossCountry services. Its grand Victorian glass-and-iron поезд shed and the iconic Heilanman's Umbrella — the bridge carrying Argyle Street above the станция approaches — are cherished landmarks of the city. Glasgow Central opens directly onto Gordon Street in the heart of the city centre, with Buchanan Street shopping zone a five-minute walk away. The Argyle Street and Buchanan Street subway stations are close by for onward connections across the city.

ScotRail operates the Cathcart Circle, Argyle Линия, and services south and west to Ayrshire, Inverclyde, and Dumfries from Central. Avanti West Coast runs direct services to London Euston via the West Coast Main Линия in around four hours 30 minutes.

ScotRail Expressly services and regular intercity trains run between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley via Motherwell and Carstairs in around one hour. Faster Queen Street services via Falkirk High use Glasgow Queen Street станция instead.

Glasgow Central opened in 1879 and was designed by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson. The Hielanman's Umbrella, the section of Argyle Street covered by the station's bridge viaduct, became a famous meeting point for Scottish Highlanders and is an iconic part of Glasgow's social history.
