Lauterbrunnen station lies at the foot of one of Switzerland's most spectacular valleys in the Bernese Oberland, surrounded by towering cliffs and waterfalls. It is served by the Berner Oberland-Bahn from Interlaken and acts as the interchange point for the rack railways ascending to Mürren and Wengen.

Lauterbrunnen is a key interchange for the Jungfrau Region. The WAB cog railway to Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg (for the Jungfraujoch) departs from here. The BLM cable car to Grutschalp and Murren also starts at the station. It is the gateway to the Jungfrau UNESCO area.
